Illegal Aliens Coming Out of the Shadows

Proponents for illegal aliens repeatedly declare that they need to "come out of the shadows" so we can know who they are. Over the weekend, many did just that. They came out of the shadows to demonstrate for their "rights". Many were carrying Mexican flags and signs in Spanish demanding amnesty for them. Even though there were several thousand, it represented only a small fraction of the estimated fifteen to twenty-five+ millions here illegally.

Hundreds of school age kids were demonstrating in L.A. That is to be expected, because L.A. is a hub for illegal aliens from Mexico. One student was quoted as saying that America would not be anywhere if it wasn’t for the Mexicans. She is getting the typical history education provided in schools that are overcrowded and striving to educate those who don’t speak English. It is an impossibility, as evidenced by the low test scores there. Her culture is telling her that she is entitled to the “rights” of those who are citizens, because of her people’s contributions to society. Any number of studies contradict that, pointing out that illegal aliens are likely to be poor, largely uneducated, and needing our generous social welfare net to exist here.

An adult, equally proud of his people’s contributions to American society, and equally ignorant of its history, challenged: “Who built the World Trade Center?”

I’m not sure about this, but I don’t think the World Trade Center had a sign somewhere on it that said “Built by Mexican Labor”.

The reason for the massive demonstrations is the fact that the Senate is taking up its immigration reform bill and the demonstrations were designed to remind the senators that these people were demanding their “rights”. They have a lot to gain from a sympathetic Senate. They have a lot to lose if the Senate abides by the law.

Did you ever wonder how so many people show up for these demonstrations? They are not spontaneous. They are well planned and executed. Many groups have a vested interest in seeing that illegal aliens are favored in this country. Many profit from one aspect or another. Thus, you find as organizers and supporters attorneys who handle illegals’ appeals, etc., thereby earning a good living from that endeavor alone. You find the unions who either do represent the workers or want to represent them, thereby swelling the unions’ ranks and dues and power. You find churches, some with purely humanitarian motives, but also churches such as the Catholic Church, which receives lots of money from the government to administer social services, thereby increasing the Catholic Church’s power, also. With an eye to filling their pews, the Catholic Church’s bishops have been pushing for amnesty through their “welcoming the stranger” campaign at their Sunday services.

The A.C.L.U. is always involved, whether overtly or covertly. While trying to convince the average American that they are looking our for them, they put a lot of their effort to undermining the workers of this country by supporting illegal immigration, which drags down wages as the illegals compete by taking less money for a job done. Maybe the A.C.L.U. is advocating for the poor worker, but it isn’t the American citizen worker.

Businesses have an interest in being able to hire workers who will work for the very lowest wages, thereby driving down the wages for all. Many times businesses pay these workers “under the table” so they don’t have to abide by the laws that mandate they pay a decent wage, and that they pay taxes, which support our generous welfare system. The bottom line is all important for some businesses, whose practices compete unfairly with those who do follow the laws.

So we see them massed, loudly demanding that we ignore their breaking of our laws by crossing our border illegally. President Bush weighs in with his plea for admitting “willing workers for willing employers”. We have too many of both categories. Willing employers will always seek the lowest paid labor. There will always be willing workers to take the lowest paid jobs offered. If we apply this rule, there are millions more “willing workers” overseas who want to come here, and there are millions more in Mexico planning to come here, driven by the incentive of being able to stay here and bring their families, if an amnesty can be engineered.

The success of abiding by immigration laws for legal immigration is discarded. We have “absorbed” immigrants from other countries because they have assimilated and become essentially Americans by learning the English language and abiding by our Constitution. This now is completely ignored. Think of why the direction must be given when calling almost any company or government entity: “press one for English”. Think of the English as a Second Language classes we must provide for a massive influx of non-English speaking students. Think of the expense of printing government documents in over a hundred different languages. This is not assimilation. This is accommodation.

In the pictures of the demonstrations we can see many flags of another country. In one picture was an American flag, discarded and stepped on as it lay on the ground. It had served its propaganda purpose. It is also representative of the mentality of the illegal population as it tries to manipulate public opinion in its favor to gain amnesty.

The flag represents the United States of America. It is shown to be of little importance to those who have not assimilated and are now agitating for the right to stay here and profit by ignoring the laws American citizens have always been forced to obey, and which have ensured an orderly society by which law-abiding people were able to prosper. Many come from a society that has no such laws, a society that has rampant graft and corruption as everyday realities. Our own country has enough such lawbreakers using graft and corruption. This is one thing we surely do not need to import. Do we want to continue seeing massive invaders across our borders? Do we want our social systems, built through decades of democratic representation, warped or ignored?

Americans will know shortly, as the Senate is gingerly trying to have it both ways, as usual. They are pandering either to business interests, unions, churches, immigration lawyers, or others who support them financially, and help get them re-elected. Republican senators are uneasy these days, because they know that over 80% of Americans, when polled, say they want illegal immigration stopped.

Add to that the fact that their conservative base is of the same mind as those over 80% Americans, and they must choose whether to pander to their business interests or represent the base that most surely got them elected and re-elected.

This base is up in arms at the thought of ANY amnesty, no matter what it is called. Yes, Americans will know shortly just how well their representatives will actually represent them.
