Savage writes:

“The last week has shown the American people that the Democrat Party and the Republican Party serve no other purpose than the accumulation of power. There was a time when Democrats stood for true civil rights. That time has passed. There was a time when the Republicans stood for borders, language and culture. That day is over”.

Savage points out the cross dressing:

“Since Sarah Palin was selected as John McCain’s running mate, the Democrats have developed overnight a deep concern over the propriety of teenage motherhood. And at the same time, the Republicans have said that if you question whether teenage motherhood is good for America, you must be a sexist. In 24 hours, the Republicans discarded 150 years of morality because they think it will help them gain power. In a single day, the Democrats have discovered morality because they think it will help them take the Republicans down. It’s the most absurd display of political cross-dressing our country has ever seen”.

It is also a cynical display of political pandering. After years of spitting in the eyes of Republicans, John McCain finally went to “the base”. His polls most have been telling him that he had to do something like this. The religious right was decidedly chilly to him, so he needed to do as George Bush did when he courted the religious right. One can be forgiven for asking what took him so long, or for wondering if his heart is in it.

The political slates are cast. It is Barack Obama and Joe Biden vs. John McCain and Sarah Palin. The parties have given us what they think we went….change. That change is a candidate that is black and one that is a woman. It doesn’t really matter that much. Looking at the ones behind the scene give us a better sense of who is really making the decisions.

The theme of the convention should have been “globalism”. Who will address the fact that Americans are losing jobs at a fast rate? Some of the jobs are going to workers brought into this country on work visas to compete with our own. It is cheaper to bring them in and easier to keep them under the control of big businesses. Although millions have lost their jobs by oursourcing overseas, they should not complain, according to Tom Donohue, head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is quoted as saying that some unemployment shouldn’t produce “anecdotal politics and policies”, and those affected should just “stop whining”.

A good example of the mindset of these businesses is that of Carly Fiorina, former CEO and Chairman of the Board of Hewlett-Packard. She was dismissed from those posts in February of 2005, after which Hewlett-Packard’s stock jumped 7%, at those news. But she was given a hefty “golden parachute” to sail away on. She feathered her nest well, as her severance package included $21 million in cash, which was 2.5 times her annual salary. Before she was nudged out, however, she managed to insult the working class in a January 2004 meeting with Congressional members, by saying:

“There is no job that is America’s God-given right anymore. We have to compete for jobs as a nation”.

This is from someone who knew she would never have to compete for a job that paid low wages. As it turned out, she would never have to compete at all, if she didn’t want to do so, as her severance package would have been enough to sustain most people for the rest of their lives. Carly Fiorina was prominent in the McCain campaign and was featured on the dais at the convention on Wednesday evening.

The economy got a nod from the slate, but only as a matter of bemoaning the fact of how bad it is. Solutions were in short supply. Some promised tax cuts, some promised to cut government, but haven’t we heard all that before? We can always depend on the Democrats to raise taxes, but McCain had a debate with himself about the issue.

On July 7 McCain assured voters at a town-hall venue that:

“Senator Obama will raise your taxes. I won’t”.

However, on ABC’s :”This Week “ later on, when someone asked a question about whether he would consider raising Security Security payroll taxes, he replied:

“There’s nothing that’s off the table. I have my positions, and I’ll articulate them. But nothing’s off the table”.

After taking some heat about this switch, he assured another audience of voters in Colorado that:

“I will not raise your taxes. I will not do it”.

Waiting in the wings is the Social Security Totalization program, which would give benefits to illegal aliens. Since McCain co-sponsored the McCain/Kennedy amnesty legislation, we can be pretty sure that he would be okay with this.

Savage asked the question that dared not be asked. What about immigration? It is the mammoth elephant in the room, and not the cute Republican mascot. Neither Obama or McCain are talking about it, but both favor “comprehensive” legislation, code word for amnesty. Because nobody is allowed to keep track of illegal aliens, nobody really knows how many are here. An educated guess would put it at between thirty to forty million. While some now are getting benefits supposedly reserved for American citizens, if amnesty was given, these several millions would be able to legally get these benefits. Isn’t Social Security supposed to be going broke? This amnesty would be like throwing an anchor on a sinking ship.

McCain and Obama have lots of allies in getting amnesty. There are several groups devoted entirely to the furtherance of Hispanics. One of them is La Raza, loosely interpreted as “The Race”. Obama and McCain spoke to this group in July, 2008. Obama favors amnesty, (legal status and a pathway to citizenship). He also had sharp criticism of efforts to arrest illegal aliens by I.C.E, claiming they were terrorizing communities by their immigration raids. La Raza is subsidized by taxpayers’ money.

McCain, for his part, assured La Raza that he was for comprehensive legislation, his name for amnesty. He stated in May that “comprehensive” legislation would be “a top agenda item”. Hispanics are usually about 70% favorable to Democrats, so we can see why they are courted and promised benefits. What’s in it for McCain and the Republicans? Cheap labor. It’s a win-win situation, except for taxpayers.

Both parties have Hispanics on their campaigns. In fact, both parties have representatives of various special interest groups. Although candidates address their promises to voters, how often are those promises kept? It seems the citizens often have nobody to lobby for their interests, such as low taxes, secure borders and safe neighborhoods.

Michael Savage is a keen observer of the two-party system and has declared it morally bankrupt. He reports:

“Here is what George Washington had to say about it. ‘It serves to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration…agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one….against another…it opens the door to foreign influence and corruption….thus policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.’ Over 200 years ago, George Washington, our first president knew that we would come to this point. So don’t pretend that your party is fighting power for principal. They’re fighting principally for power”.

The Democrats and Republicans have given us a bleak choice. It’s “heads, they win…..and tails, we lose”.
