You can close your eyes and see Savage charging into battle, armed with sharpened intellect and the cudgel of courage.

The latest manifestation of these traits was reported just this week. Savage had sued CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations). After the suit, the Muslim lobbying group tried to get Savage stuck with their attorney fees. They lost. They tried again, and just lost again.

In bringing this suit, Savage shone a spotlight on CAIR and its supporters, which most Americans had never seen before. He also went up against this group that had bent municipalities to its will, causing laws and its customs to be adopted. Savage gives good advice to us all:

….”Now, people will not be afraid to file suits if they have a legitimate claim against CAIR or any other Soros-funded group.”

Who is giving the “Braveheart” award? Me. Having looked over many awarders and awardees, I deem that my judgment, education and well rounded experience qualifies me. Possessing the added ingredient of common sense, perhaps my judgment is superior to the whole lot. This excludes the scientific categories, which may or may not have merit. Maybe most awards were given for merit, once upon a time, but that time has gone. Now, they are politically chosen and meant to further the reputations and fortunes of the recipients.

Witness the award given to Al Gore. He won a Nobel award, and his only claim to fame was a Chicken Little insistence that global warning was upon us. Now that we have endured the coldest Winter for several years, it will not deter him. Already, Al us all over the networks warning us that we are about to melt. He still touts the Kyoto Treaty. If the U.S. signs the treaty, it would bind the country into prohibitively expensive actions, while exempting the worst polluting nations. Right around the corner is the global tax, favored by Obama, which we are told we must pay to the U.N. as our fair share in mitigating the effects of global warning. This is the same U.N. that did such a good job in the Oil for Food swindle.

Sometimes, the awarders succumb to the desire to cash in on a beloved person’s popularity. That was the case with Mother Teresa. She won the Nobel Prize for Peace. Her merits were such that she was hard to overlook. She and her little sisters went into the worst slums of India and nurtured those who had been left to die alone. They were given love and attention, no matter how physically dirty and desperately sick they were. These unfortunates became the fortunate because they died with loving arms around them.

Mother Teresa in her Nobel Lecture on December 11, 1979, spoke what was on her heart:

…….”And this I appeal in India, I appeal everywhere: Let us bring the child back, and this year being the child’s year: what have we done for the child? At the beginning of the year I told, I spoke everywhere and I said: Let us make this year that we make every single child born, and unborn, wanted.”

I would imagine that there were many squirming in their seats while Mother Teresa spoke. She certainly was not politically correct just because someone had honored her. She chastised the pro-aborts where they were, with charity, but with boldness.

It is rare that we see that kind of audacious profession of one’s convictions. In the field of social and political commentary, Michael Savage stands out for that reason. He does not back down. He has had extensive education and knows what he thinks. He does not suffer fools gladly; actually, he does not suffer them at all.

Because he is critical of all politicians who are wanting, he is not invited to the White House to be propagandized, since presidents/ politicians live there. He is the best known, unknown talk show host in the country. He is nobody’s dummy for powerful media ventriloquists. Millions tune him in to hear him voice their own frustrations. He is more nearly the common man, the voice of the people, than most in his business. His voice rings true to them.

His independence has cost him at times. When the left attacks, the people who should be supporting him are silent. He is under constant attack by all facets of the left wing. He has done battle with the twits pretending to be a government on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He opposed CAIR and won, again and again. His latest battle in court was decided in his favor just recently. Savage knows a bully when he sees one and does not back off. Hence, the “Braveheart” Award.

It is time that the conservatives had their own awards. The left uses them to promote their favorites, and it is something the conservatives can do equally as well, or even better, since we have better raw material.

The left, having no real scruples or traditional morals, embraces all who will further the cause. On the other hand, conservatives are independent and do not easily join a group or cause. Is it time to do so? Giving awards is one way to do it; then all can hail the award and so promote the awardee.

So, this is not a trivial pursuit. I challenge the writers out there to have their own awards. There doesn’t have to be any money involved. There doesn’t even have to be a speech made. Conservatives have sharp minds, delightful wit, and convincing arguments. Let’s get those awards out there.

Find your own “Braveheart”. You can do at least as well as “Time”.
