Why Conservatives Shy Away From Public Service – One Reason
No wonder good conservative people often do not step up and run for political office. Conservatives have a history of burning their own alive at any sign of a mistake, before they give them the benefit of the doubt. Liberals have a history of rallying around their own who make awful mistakes; knowing that whatever they did wrong will blow over as soon as the next big news story hits the front page. Even the conservative co-hosts of ‘The Real News’ burned Todd Akin at the stake while calling him a ‘Neanderthal.’ I did not hear them explain that “legitimate rape” was a widely accepted concept, developed by the medical field not that long ago.
“Legitimate rape” was the medical wisdom of 40 years ago, when I was 20 years old. At that time recorded rapes were studied and the pregnancy rate among raped women was very low. It was attributed to a few facts. First, women are fertile about five days each month. The odds of being raped during fertility are about 16%. That percentage is lowered by the number of women on regular birth control medications. The actual records studied of raped women who became pregnant were an even lower percentage. This was attributed to the terrifying state of the women who had been raped, affecting ovulation negatively. Once all of these factors are taken into consideration, about 5% of raped women became pregnant.
How many of us have known, or know of a couple who could not conceive for many years. They adopt a child, just to find out within a few months that the wife is pregnant. Why? Once the stress of trying to get pregnant was eliminated, conception became easy. Being stressed or being terrified must be similar in the impact on the female body. The argument that most raped women do not become pregnant, no longer sounds ridiculous. This idea no longer sounds like it came from a ‘Neanderthal.’ In fact, it sounds reasonable. What is not reasonable is to believe that no one becomes pregnant from rape. However, if the percentages of raped women who become pregnant were to jump to 20% or more, we just might logically believe that about the number over 5% would not be from a “legitimate rape.”
Today’s liberal atmosphere in the medical field would have you believe that raped women become pregnant as often as those who are engaging in casual sex . The truth lies somewhere closer to the 40 year old idea based on rape records, the actual five days of the month a woman is fertile, and the high usage of birth control medications. One idea that we did not explore is the number of girls / women who become pregnant by way of consensual sex, and cry “rape” after the fact to protect their virtue.
There is a real possibility that Roe vs. Wade will be overturned one day. If that happens, society will probably decide that the only legal abortions are for women who are raped, or their life is endangered by the pregnancy. It is probable at that time that we will see the number of rape victims multiply by some large number, to be able to have an abortion. Should someone lie about being raped, just to get an abortion that would not be a “legitimate rape?” Therein is the whole reasoning behind the medical term “legitimate rape.”
Thankfully, abortion is largely on the decline. This has probably come about since film of babies growing in the womb has been available. This whole burning of Todd Akin and the ignorance shown regarding the medical term “legitimate rape” by his own conservative political peers is shameful. Until conservatives change how we treat our own, it seems doubtful to me that good conservatives will be clamoring to run for office. When will our conservative politicians stop burning their own at the stake without a fair trial? It is sad commentary when Conservatives impose guilt first on their peers who often never get to make their case for innocence. Stepping forward as a Conservative candidate becomes a nice idea, but too few are willing to be burned by those who are supposed to be on their side of political discourse.
