Much has been said about mixing religion with politics. It is my personal opinion that it is wrong to preach politics from the pulpit. No denomination of the Church has any business bringing politics into church sanctuaries during Sunday morning services. The word of God should be conveyed in its purity.

Christians, however, should be well-versed in politics. It is our civic duty to keep abreast of what is going on in the world about us. No American should go into the voting booth without doing their own research and a list of candidates and issues on which to vote that was provided by someone else. We alone are responsible for deciding the fate of this country.

There are too many churches that exist merely to entertain the people with uplifting gospel music, a few well-placed amens, and the name of the Lord sprinkled here and there without feeding the flock. When the Word of God is not appropriately presented to the congregation, the life-changing experiences that Christ intended do not occur.

Preaching sermons about politics and religion instead of Christ and Him crucified alone is irreverent. When those who have taken the position of leadership to preach the Word of God twist the words of the Savior to meet their own political agenda within the walls of a sanctuary, their church suffers a spiritual death because the congregation is not experiencing God's unfettered truth.

Lucifer twisted the words of God to tempt Jesus to jump off a mountain. Christ told Lucifer to go away from him by using the words of the Scriptures "Get thee behind me Satan" (Luke 4:8). People need to understand that on Sunday mornings the church in study of His Word is what is appropriate and pleasing to the Lord.

"In case you missed this little gem, Erik Rush has done a little digging into Barack Hussein Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ. This may be more damning to Obama than his Muslim history: Take a look at their services for yourself.

"Afrocentric in the extreme would be a gross understatement. It's not simply afrocentric, it's African-centric. In fact, one could argue that this organization worships things African to a far greater degree than they do Christ, and gives the impression of being a separatist "church" in the same vein as do certain supremacist "white brethren" churches — or even Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam.

"Shocking? An overstatement? An overreaction? One can see for oneself on the Trinity United Church website, which is replete with confirmation of what I present here. What follows is an excerpt from their Mission Statement:

"'We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain 'true to our native land,' the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

Slavery is alive and well among to those who have refused to be set free by "the renewal of the mind" through Christ Jesus. (Romans 12:2) Shamefully, it is clearly apparent that their constant theme is playing the race card.

Churches such as these keep the black community in a self-sustaining bondage. Unfortunately, pastors in these churches seem to relish making their flock feel as if the whole world is upon them because of their color. Many refuse to yield to the word of the Savior as they propagate divisiveness. In God's ever-searching eyes "They are found in the balance wanting." (Daniel 5:27)

In these subcontrary churches, there is a total disconnect with the words of their Savior Jesus Christ. They refuse to understand that in Christ we have already been set free no matter what our station in life is. God is no respecter of color, race or gender. (Romans 12:2) Racism is no longer the problem it was when Martin Luther King Jr. began his peaceful marches to enlighten our nation.

Our loving God does not judge humans by external appearances. God does not judge us by color; He judges the heart. The wisdom of God's judgment is that he is "no respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34), and thus we are to judge the same way (1 Timothy 5:21; James 3:17). We all come from the first man and woman, Adam and Eve.

Strident, ranting voices wrongly turn up the heat on the non-black Christians and the Religious Right. This behavior is unacceptable as well as un-Christlike. Evidently Abraham Lincoln must be an enigma to these combative churches.

"You shall know them by their fruits." (1 John 4:19)

The family of God needs to come before the Lord boldly, but in humility. Please pray for those who are living in self-affliction and captivity. A world of hurt continues to be fueled inside militant black churches.
