What does it take to produce a can of peaches?

Has anyone ever plotted how many jobs are in a can of peaches? The problem with bureaucracy and currency manipulators is they never understand the infinite range of human skills, talents, equipment, experience, energy and infrastructure it takes to produce a simple can of peaches, much less the myriad far more complicated products we take for granted every day. You want jobs? Here’s diversity of skills and employment!

What’s in a can of peaches? Peaches, can, lid and label; plus the carton to put them in so they can reach the store safely. Nothing to it!

Peaches – Development of the best varieties; nursery stock for transplant; preparation and removal to orchard site; soil, water, land prep; fertilizers, irrigation systems; planting and 3-4 years of care with no production; pruning; pest control; bees if needed; water and fertilizer; harvest; grading; transport; selection for canning; washing pitting; peeling; slicing; combine with syrup at filling. Deal with the waste safely and profitably.

Can and lid – Mine the ore and process it, make the steel alloy with corrosion and biologically pure liner that can be pressure formed into a one piece container; form the containers at 1,000 units/minute, complete with ribs and lip. Stamp out lids of same material and apply a sealing compound under the lip to complete the container after filling.

Move processed peaches and cans to the filling area – fill cans at 1,000 units/minute and apply lid for a permanent seal capable of holding under pressure and heat required for shelf life. Label and carton: Commercial artists design attractive labels to be printed on paper prepared from wood pulp with durable finish and a variety of colored inks applied by a multi-color press. Cut labels to size and apply at 1,000 units/minute using a special adhesive that is safe and durable. Inspect, drop into cartons and place on pallets where they can be transported to storage and on to the store by truck.

Every one of these simple steps hide an infinite range of talents, skills and resources of miners, metallurgists; chemists; agronomists, farmers and the skilled tenders of the trees, engineers, artists, truckers, designers, syrup producers, store shelves, etc. In brief; I failed to even scratch the surface of what it takes in jobs, skills and resources to produce a simple can of peaches.

Every Education guru, EPA regulator and Obama Administration slug should be required as a condition of employment to learn ALL the steps needed to produce a can of peaches! They don’t appreciate that stuff in politically correct universities, nor do they understand why employment falls when skills and facilities are shipped overseas for some speculator’s profit motive. Real profit comes from producing lots of cans of peaches and whatever the free marketplace demands.
