WEBCommentary Back Online
Chinese website used to corrupt WEBCommentary database

The "usual suspects" are up to their old tricks trying to deny the freedom of expression of anything that differs from their own narrow-minded views.

WEBCommentary.com experienced an attack overnight Friday (4/11/08) that corrupted many tables in its database. Because the site is designed to allow approved contributors to post their own material, a database system (SQL server) is used to store information and from which information is retrieved to view the site.

Over the past several years, there have been isolated attacks on the database system. The links database had been corrupted beyond repair, though a backup file from an earlier date was available to restore information. Links will be tested and updated to assure all are working sites. The current attack corrupted too many key tables so that the site had to be taken offline.

At this point in time, key routines have been reprogrammed in such a way that future attacks should not be successful. Three separate measures are being taken to assure the integrity of the database. Should these measures fail, there is a more drastic (and more difficult) process that will be used to produce WEBCommentary. Because of the extensive reprogramming that has been done over the past few days, it is possible that bugs might exist. If so, they will be fixed as soon as they are known.

While this turn of events is certainly not enjoyable (and it does require a lot of planning, some cost, and considerable work to overcome), it is heartening to know that the information that appears on WEBCommentary.com is so threatening to "the usual suspects" that they would risk committing a serious crime to shut down the site.

So keep up the good work, writers. We must be doing something right!

Biography - Bob Webster

Author of "Looking Out the Window", an evidence-based examination of the "climate change" issue, Bob Webster, is a 12th-generation descendent of both the Darte family (Connecticut, 1630s) and the Webster family (Massachusetts, 1630s). He is a descendant of Daniel Webster's father, Revolutionary War patriot Ebenezer Webster, who served with General Washington. Bob has always had a strong interest in early American history, our Constitution, U.S. politics, and law. Politically he is a constitutional republican with objectivist and libertarian roots. He has faith in the ultimate triumph of truth and reason over deception and emotion. He is a strong believer in our Constitution as written and views the abandonment of constitutional restraint by the regressive Progressive movement as a great danger to our Republic. His favorite novel is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and believes it should be required reading for all high school students so they can appreciate the cost of tolerating the growth of unconstitutional crushingly powerful central government. He strongly believes, as our Constitution enshrines, that the interests of the individual should be held superior to the interests of the state.

A lifelong interest in meteorology and climatology spurred his strong interest in science. Bob earned his degree in Mathematics at Virginia Tech, graduating in 1964.
