Proposing Sheriff Joe Arpaio for president may seem like a whimsical idea. It is not. Sheriff Arpaio has steadfastly done the job given to him by the voters in his area, in spite of the organized and vocal illegal alien lobby. They have been gunning for him and now see the best opportunity they have ever had to make life miserable for him and, hopefully, throw him out of office.
The Sheriff, you see, has been carrying out inquiries into people who come to his attention, after they have committed an infraction of the law. Very often, these people turn out to be Hispanics; very often they turn out to be illegal aliens. That’s because the sheriff polices the area of Maricopa County, Arizona, which area houses and attracts many Hispanics.
The illegal alien lobby can’t have that going on. La Raza, (the Race), MECHA, and the ever helpful-to-aliens ACLU, want all that policing and apprehending going on stopped, because they feel it is aimed at them. The Hispanic groups advocate only for their own race, which seems to be racially motivated. La Raza (The Race) lobbies Congress and receives monies for their cause. This is “La Raza”, (The Race), not “A Race”.
Joined in this pursuit of Sheriff Arpaio is ACORN, (which also receives federal money), and which has become notorious for investigations of fraud into its voter sign-up irregularities.
It was only a matter of time before the Democrats, who count the illegal aliens as voters or potential voters, came down on this sheriff who is doing his job. Relishing their recent congressional clout, they brought out the big guns, the Department of Justice.
Leading the parade are Reps. Jerold Nadler (D-NY), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), John Conyers (D- Mich) and Robert Scott (D-VA).
In an article by CNSNews.com Arpaio is reported to have said :
“I will not back down. What I am doing is upholding the laws of the state of Arizona, and I will not be persuaded to turn my back on my oath of office as sheriff of this county.”
Sheriff Arpaio does things by the book, and in a press release of August, 2008, gives an accounting of his office. The release notes:
“While the sheriff’s illegal immigration and human struggling operations conducted on the streets and roadways here have netted nearly 2,300 arrests, another very successful effort to locate illegal aliens has been quietly happening inside Maricopa Country Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jails.”
‘”Despite the growing criticism of the Sheriff’s illegal immigration fight by some valley politicians and activists, Sheriff Arpaio says 60 detention officers trained by ICE officials have conducted over 106,000 interviews and investigations of inmates booked into jail since April 2007.”
“In those 18 months 16,000 inmates were determined to be illegal aliens. Either they have already been deported or will be deported after being tried and/or serving their sentences for crimes committed in the valley. This work being done by Arpaio’s detention staff is a likely contributor to the recent reduction in crime in the valley.”
“That number of 16,000 represents a full one-third (1/3) of all inmates in the United States who have had holds placed on them after being identified by jail or prison officials as illegal aliens.”
That sounds pretty efficient to me. In fact, I wonder if any other sheriff in the U.S. could equal that record. Of course, that is Sheriff Arpaio’s problem now. He has been too efficient and the Dems see him cutting into their base, either present or potential. They can’t have the sheriff locking up their people.
The newly appointed Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, has been asked by the Dems to investigate the training provided by ICE. As Governor of Arizona, Napolitano vetoed most legislation aimed at curbing illegal immigration, and dragged her feet on the rest. There is no love lost for the tough Sheriff. Is it payback time?
This investigation is not surprising, given the mindset of the Democrats, who pander to the illegal alien supporters. These supporters are the Dems’ guys.
If we needed any further proof, the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, third in line to the presidency, recently spoke to a group of legal and illegal aliens. Pelosi weighed in with her support of illegal immigration.
She told the group that our enforcement of the existing immigration laws is “un-American.” She told this group that they were “very, very patriotic.” She also said of the raids being conducted by lawfully instituted agents of Immigration and Enforcement Customs :
“It must be stopped…..What value system is that? I think it is un-American. I think it is un-American.”
The push is on to make the illegal aliens citizens, by amnesty, which will do away with the pesky little law of having to be in the country legally.
Arrayed against this onslaught is Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He is not political; he just goes about doing his job. He does it efficiently and economically. He is regularly re-elected by the voters, by large margins. He has said he does not aspire to higher office.
So, Joe Arpaio for president? The country sorely needs representatives that have backbone, do not run with the pack, do not pander to certain groups, and who do the jobs they are authorized to perform. How refreshing. Sheriff Joe Arpaio should be a model for what we expect in our representatives.
Too many of the other kind fill the halls of Congress. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is protecting the people of Maricopa County.
