High Crimes & Oaths

Keeping the populace trapped within the false, left-versus-right paradigm is paramount for the War Party to advance its agenda. This feat depends upon the government and its proxies in the media getting people engrossed with transitory issues (e.g., personality related quarrels), while simultaneously embellishing contrast between the two major parties.

Many Americans are cognizant of the fact that ex-President Bill Clinton engaged in some shadowy dealings with Jiang Zemin[see notes below] and Zhu Rongji. To create that fiction of choice, the media cast George W. Bush in the role of Jimmy Stewart's character, Jefferson Smith. Consequently, many Americans are not aware of the Republican Party's own involvement in Chinese espionage.

Mean-spirited Republicans impeached Clinton over sex, while Bush is getting away with high crimes, say the Democrats. But, Republicans argue, Clinton lied about his relationship with Lewinsky. That parlance conceals the high crimes of both sides.

Clinton's impeachment was supposed to be over something called Chinagate. It was prominent Republicans - especially in the Senate - that helped derail the impeachment by morphing Chinagate into Monicagate. Although I would add the disclaimer that Monicagate was bad enough, given the fact that Lewinsky landed a GS-9 job inside of the Pentagon, with a top-secret security clearance, at the ripe age of 21. I don't think landing that job was a mere coincidence. Sexual misconduct makes one vulnerable to blackmail, and nurtures a culture of cronyism.

How many Americans have heard the name Katrina Leung? Katrina Leung was a well-connected Republican Party fundraiser and donor. There is at least one sitting Congressman (i.e., David Dreier) who has taken money from Leung. What is significant about Leung is that she was accused of being a Chinese spy. Albeit, she was acquitted of the charges against her.

The story doesn't come to an end there, however. Ms. Leung ended up in the same bed, and at the same time, as at least two FBI agents. One of Leung's romps was with FBI agent James J. Smith, who just so happened to be involved in Chinese counter-intelligence, while also handling sensitive information related to the Wen Ho Lee investigation. Another of Leung's romps was with FBI agent William Cleveland, Jr., who handled Chinese counter-intelligence operations for Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.

Of peripheral interest is a note that "Scooter" Libby has retained the same defense counsel as both Wen Ho Lee and James J. Smith.

Against the backdrop of this bipartisan/interagency problem of being soaked in Chinese espionage money, it would be perfectly rational for one to ask some questions. Who, exactly, is working in the U.S. government? Who are they working for? Is the FBI trustworthy?

Enter one, Russell Tice. Russell Tice asked some of those same questions. Both FBI agents William Cleveland and James J. Smith managed to retire from the FBI, and William Cleveland was allowed to resign from his post with Lawrence Livermore. Russell Tice, on the other hand, was stripped of his security clearance, railroaded out of the NSA, and adjudicated as one who suffers from "paranoia" for asking legitimate questions.

Posterior to the "revelation" that the government engages in warrantless (i.e., illegal) spying on Americans, the White House spin machine immediately went into full-throttle. The only regret of the administration was not its conduct, but that it got caught. The "leakers" became targets of an investigation, while several prominent neoconservatives called for the arrest of those responsible for the "leak."

The "debate" was over who leaked the information that Bush is corrupt, and whether or not this "compromised" national security. To which I would respond with my own question: who leaked the information that bears sleep in the woods, and is this a threat to national security? Apparently, "national security" means maintaining Bush's reputation, while trying to keep his image intact. Anything that threatens his image is a "threat" to "national security."

Russell Tice is one of those American heroes who can claim credit for having been responsible for the "leak." For being information coming from a "paranoid" man, it is revealing to see the reaction to these "paranoid" ideas. If they are without merit, then why the tumult?

Russell Tice has yet to reveal any classified information, and has said that if he is to tell us everything he knows he would be arrested. As a vindictive Bush administration targets and penalizes whistleblowers, this prompts a question. What is more important: the oath of secrecy, or the oath to uphold and defend the Constitution?

While you have been subjugated to punitive actions, Russ, this may be of little solace to you, but the late William S. Burroughs used to say: "A paranoid is someone who knows a little of what's going on." And so Russell Tice figured out a little of what's going on.

Biography - Mark Anderson

Mark served honorably for four years on active duty in the Marine Corps infantry, and was a Libertarian endorsed candidate for a municipal office in 2002. He re-enlisted in the ARNG in 2006 because he was depressed/at times SI without the military. He has held the NFA Series 3 license (futures and futures options broker) which he did a voluntary withdrawal on because he couldn't in good conscience sell managed futures since firms would do better to hire an in-house trader to trade a proprietary account with a discount broker, which he outlined in his well-written withdrawal request. Since the year 2000, he has spent much of his free time reading the great minds of the Austrian School of economics, such as Murray Rothbard, Henry Hazlitt, Ludwig von Mises, et al.
