Limbaugh and Springer are not known for showing great respect for women on their shows, and Turner's nomination would be portrayed as evidence that the phony "War on Women" that Team Obama is pedding is real and pave the way to an even easier second re-election of Gillibrand (a woman), this time to a full six-year term.

Joe Carvin, Rye Town Supervisor, jumped into the race a few days ago, but he voted for Obama.
Which candidate for the Republican United States Senate nomination in New York is Senator Gillibrand concerned about running against?
Wendy Long.
Under the circumstances, one would expect that New York Republicans would be enthusiastically uniting behind Wendy Long and exuberant to have such an eminently qualified woman to prove that the War Against Women charge is a shameless lie.
But Craig Eaton, the Brooklyn Republican leader, was not satisfied with either of the men running for the nomination (or the only woman, Long) and wanted a Republican man from Brooklyn to be nominated, first time Congressman Bob Turner, whom Democrats want to hold to one term through redistricting mischief.
Eaton recently emailed his fellow Republican county chairs as follows:
"This is an urgent and confidential communication in advance of Friday’s State Convention in Rochester. Please do not forward this email.
"As you know, we have three declared candidates planning to run against Kirsten Gillibrand for the United States Senate. Each of these candidates has their advantages and disadvantages, but it appears a primary is imminent. Ms. Gillibrand is weak and she can be beaten. She was just declared the most liberal U.S. senator in America, and that could badly hurt her in the general election.
"I am deeply concerned, though, that a contentious Republican Primary, and the possibility of the Republicans and Conservatives selecting different candidates to represent them, will spoil our chances of winning this senate seat. We are looking at a possible repeat of 2010 the way this is playing out."
With Eaton having set the stage, Turner declared his candidacy the next day. Last September 13, Turner, over 70 now, won the Congressional seat vacated by the disgraced Anthony Weiner. (Weiner had beaten him, by 22%, in 2010.) Turner notably created and launched both Rush Limbaugh's television show and "The Jerry Springer Show."

Unless the current political reality in New York is recognized and Wendy Long is nominated by the Republican and Conservative Parties, we will be looking in horror to a repeat of 2010--a Gillibrand re-election. (In 2010 Gillibrand was re-elected against a fine male Republican-Conservative candidate (Joe DioGuardi) by more than 27%.)
