Sixty Years Ago – The Same Left

The sorry history of diplomacy and cowardice leading up to the invasion of Poland in 1939 and then the mass extermination of six million Jews and six million Christians by the Nazis has a hidden culprit, but it is not the one imagined by the Left.

The Leftists have spent the last sixty years blaming the Holocaust and the rise of Hitler on the apathy or even secret support of patriots in democracies.  The sorry history of diplomacy and cowardice leading up to the invasion of Poland in 1939 and then the mass extermination of six million Jews and six million Christians by the Nazis has a hidden culprit, but it is not the one imagined by the Left.

The Left, often to this very day, posits that the efforts of war-weary democracies to prevent the installation of totalitarianism in Russia by ending the Bolshevik junta of the democratically elected government of Social Democrats and others – the parties that actually overthrew the Tsars – was somehow selfish meddling in the internal affairs of the Russian people.

The consequences of allowing Lenin and then Stalin to rule Russia (soon to be a neo-Great Russian empire including unwilling subject nationalities like Ukrainians, Turcoman and Uzbeks), are too horrific to contemplate.  As I detail in my forthcoming book, Sinisterism: Secular Religion of the Lie, Russia under the Tsars was vastly better than it was under the Soviets.  The potential of a truly free, democratic Russia under Kerensky, perhaps with a very limited constitutional monarchy like Denmark and Holland, or perhaps not, would have been a world transforming event which would have made the sacrifices of the Great War mean something.

The neglect of the Left in supporting democracy in Russia and embracing nascent totalitarianism which would soon mushroom into the greatest mass murdering machine in human history is unforgivable.  Just as bad, however, was the attitude of the Left in Britain and in America toward Nazism.  Although nearly everyone dreaded, for good reason, another war, it was the Left that opposed reflexively every attempt to get Britain to rearm.  Their antiwar efforts in the 1930s, their visceral hatred of the British military during that crucial decade, are chillingly similar to the Left in America today (also detailed in my new book.)

Today, this day, sixty years after Hitler began his opening moves toward all the evil which came out of the Second World War – he occupied the Rhineland unopposed in 1936 -  new Nazis reign in Iran.  These Nazis in Teheran may soon have nuclear weapons.  These new Nazis deny the Holocaust.  They, like the Nazis and Soviets, propose Jewish concentration regions.  The Nazis proposed Madagascar and the Soviet created the autonomous region of Birobidzhan at the landlocked extreme of eastern Siberia.  These modern Nazis unabashedly hate America and the ideals of Western Civilization, just like Hitler and Stalin.

What does the Left think we should do about it?  Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean, when he was front runner for the Democrat nomination two years ago, thought that we needed to involve the “Soviet Union” (a polity that had been dead ten years when Dean made his remarks.)  What does Dean think “we” should do now?

What do leaders of the Left think will happen in Iraq and in Afghanistan, both nations with long borders with Iran, if Iran acquires nuclear weapons?  Who on the Left believes that “we” can tolerate a nuclear Iran led by brutal, anti-Semitic and anti-American theocrats?  The democracies, particularly America, are vastly stronger today than Iran, just as the democracies were vastly stronger than Nazi Germany in 1936.  History is replaying itself, and the rest of us should ask the Left what “their” plan is to stop Hitler this time.

Should we work through multi-lateral organizations like the League of Nations?  Should we boycott German goods, as many Americans did after Kristallnacht?  Should we bribe the National Socialists of Teheran, as the European democracies tried to do by allowing Austria, Sudetenland and Memel to fall into German hands without a fight?  Should we play for time, while time is on the side of evil?  Should we wait until Hitler has the bomb?

Mr. Dean, Congressperson Pelosi, Senator Reid and Senator Durbin – America is waiting to hear how you propose to confront pure evil as it grows stronger before our eyes.  America is waiting for real courage, the sort of courage which could have stopped Hitler before HaShoah and the murder of millions of other innocents.  America is waiting for those who have never opposed great evil but always second-guessed those who stood up to Nazism and Communism.  America is waiting, but the silence on the Left is deafening.
