Will Cardinal Dolan Disinvite Hillary Clinton to the Al Smith Dinner After Clintonistas John Podesta and Obama Mentor Sandy Newman Were Exposed as Enemies of the Catholic Church?
It is obvious that Hillary Clinton craves Catholic votes, but it would be foolish for Cardinal Dolan to disregard the evidence that Team Clinton not only does not respect the Catholic Church, but wants to undermine it.
On October 12, 2016, in "Democratic Conspiracy Against Catholic Church" (www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/democrats-conspiracy-the-catholic-church/), Rod Dreher reported this shocking news:
"The new Wikileaks dump from Clinton campaign chief John Podesta’s emails reveals that Podesta created a couple of activist groups for the sake of undermining the Catholic bishops and the Church’s authority.
"In the 2011 e-mail chain, a progressive activist named Sanford 'Sandy' Newman e-mailed Podesta to suggest collaboration on a way:
There needs to be a Catholic Spring, in which Catholics themselves demand the end of a middle ages dictatorship and the beginning of a little democracy and respect for gender equality in the Catholic Church.
"Newman, who is Jewish, concedes that he doesn’t know much about the Catholic Church, but he sure does want somebody to undermine the hierarchy:
Even if the idea isn’t crazy, I don’t qualify to be involved and I have not thought at all about how one would ‘plant the seeds of the revolution,’ or who would plant them.”
"Not to worry, said Podesta, who is Catholic, and who was at the time head of the Center For American Progress. They have progressive front organizations prepared to act when the time is right:
We created Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good to organize for a moment like this. But I think it lacks the leadership to do so now. Likewise Catholics United. Like most Spring movements, I think this one will have to be bottom up.
Catholic journalist Thomas Peters explains the significance of this revelation as follows:
"This is chilling and infuriating — though I suppose not surprising. It’s simply that now it’s undeniable. It shows that at the senior level of the Democratic Party’s brain trust, a Clinton political operative — a Catholic! — created front groups specifically to undermine the authority of the Catholic bishops, and to separate the bishops from the people, as well as to secretly undermine Catholic teaching to make it more friendly to the Democratic Party’s agenda. Podesta ought to be excommunicated."
Dreher proceeded to explain what a Hillary Clinton Administration would try to do:
"So now we know what’s coming under a Hillary Clinton presidency: a war on the Catholic Church and any other church that stands in the way of progressives in power. At an international conference last year, Hillary Clinton said that the fight for global abortion rights must never end:
Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed. As I have said and as I believe, the advancement of the full participation of women and girls in every aspect of their societies is the great unfinished business of the 21st century and not just for women but for everyone — and not just in far away countries but right here in the United States.
"As Peters points out, the Clintonistas have long been conspiring to do exactly that to Catholicism in America. I use the word 'conspiring,' because Podesta, in the text of his e-mail, says that 'we' created these two Catholic fronts 'to organize for a moment like this”'— that is, to exploit a perceived weakness in the Catholic church...."
"Following law school, Newman was a law clerk for Judge Jean S. Breitenstein on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. He then conducted test case litigation for the Center for Law and Social Policy, aimed at increasing access to health care for the poor and minorities."
"In 1982 Newman started Project VOTE!, a national non-profit focused on increasing voter registration among low-income and minority citizens. He was one of the first people to advocate providing voter registration services at government assistance agencies—an idea that became law in the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. During his tenure, the volunteers recruited by Project VOTE! organizers registered over two million voters, including 563,000 in 1992. In that year, Newman hired Barack Obama to be Project VOTE’s Illinois State Director.Years later, Obama shared the story in a video aimed at motivating his presidential campaign’s volunteers to register voters."
"In 1995, Newman founded Fight Crime: Invest in Kids. The organization is a national non-profit focused on increasing public safety through public investments in programs proven to help children get a good start. It is made up of nearly 5,000 police chiefs, sheriffs, and elected prosecutors who advocate for programs such as early childhood education, child abuse prevention, prenatal care, and coaching for parents."
"In 2003, Newman became concerned that large-scale minority voter registration drives by non-profit, non-partisan organizations had not been conducted since 1994. He shifted to a part-time status at Fight Crime: Invest in Kids and began advising donors and non-profit organizations in an effort to spur larger minority voter registration drives. In 2004, over 1.4 million new voters were successfully added to the rolls by non-profit organizations. In 2005, Newman resigned from the presidency of Fight Crime: Invest-in-Kids and began full-time advising of donors. In 2008, non-profits successfully registered four million new voters."
"In 2009, Newman founded Voices for Progress, which combines the strategy of grassroots organizing with the influence of leaders. Newman is developing this organization to advocate for climate change regulation, education funding and economic opportunity, immigration reform, campaign finance reform, and other issues."
On October 10, 2008, before Anita MonCrief was known as the ACORN whistleblower, I posted an article titled "Obama's ACORN: A Corrupt Organization of Revolutionary Nuts" (www.webcommentary.com/php/PrintArticle.php?id=gaynorm&date=081010) discussing Newman's connection with then presidential candidate Barack Obama and ACORN as follows:
"Unfortunately, with Obama and ACORN, the bulk of the mainstream media is ignoring instead of scrutinizing and publicizing the danger.
"To put it simply, Obama is lying about his ties to ACORN, lest voters see behind the curtain and realize he is a front man and a fraud.
"[Michelle] Malkin:
'In 1992, Newman hired Obama to lead Project Vote efforts in Illinois. The Illinois drive's motto: "It's a Power Thing."
'....Obama also trained ACORN members in Chicago. In turn, ACORN volunteers worked on his Illinois campaigns and ACORN's PAC endorsed his primary bid with full backing and muscle.'
"ACORN has posed as a non-partisan organization.
"It is not.
"Obviously.
"It took taxpayer money with one hand and promoted its political favorites with the other.
"Malkin:
'ACORN, which receives 40 percent of its revenues from American taxpayers to pursue an aggressive welfare-state agenda, has already helped register over 1.27 million people nationwide. The rest of their funding comes from left-wing heavyweights like billionaire George Soros and the Democracy Alliance.
'Project Vote, a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded by left-wing lawyer Sandy Newman to register voters in welfare offices and unemployment lines with the explicit goal of turning back the Reagan revolution.
'The two groups are inextricably linked -- and at their nexus is Barack Obama.'
What Michelle Malkin did not note was that the Catholic Church was a target too.
"Now that the Obama Administration has announced that it will not defend the Defense of Marriage Age and many think that presidential candidate Obama misled them when he discussed marriage at the Saddlebrook Forum during the 2008 presidential campaign, it is be an especially good time to point out that people were misled about Obama, lest his radicalness be appreciated and make him unelectable as President.
"Unfortunately, the truth about ACORN, Project Vote, Obama and Obama mentor Sandy Newman is still not generally known.
"'Project Vote! is nonpartisan, strictly nonpartisan. But we do focus our efforts on minority voters, and on states where we can explain to them why their vote will matter. Braun made that easier in Illinois.' So [Sandy] Newman decided to open a Cook County Project Vote! office and went looking for someone to head it. The name Barack Obama surfaced. 'I was asking around among community activists in Chicago and around the country, and they kept mentioning him,' Newman says. Obama by then was working with church and community leaders on the West Side, and he was writing a book that the publisher Simon & Schuster had contracted for while he was editor of the law review. He was 30 years old. When Newman called, Obama agreed to put his other work aside. 'I'm still not quite sure why,' Newman says. 'This was not glamorous, high-paying work. But I am certainly grateful. He did one hell of a job.'" [Chicago Magazine, 1/93]
"Obama had help. To help the man picked by Newman to head Illinois Project Vote, there were 22 steering committee members. Among Obama's steerers: Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Father Ffleger, Madeline Talbott (head of Illinois ACORN) and Keith Kelleher (head of ACORN-controlled SEIU Local 100 and husband of Talbott).
"Stanley Kurtz, in Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism, stated (p. viii):
'Over the long term, Obama's plans are designed to ensnare the country in a new socialism, a stealth socialism that masquerades as a traditional American sense of fair play, a soft but pernicious socialism similar to that currently strangling the economies of Europe.
'This is Barack Obama's secret. The president has systematically disguised the truth about his socialist convictions. sometimes by directly misrepresenting his past and sometimes by omitting or parceling out damaging information to disguise its real importance. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, and ACORN — all of Obama's well known radical ties are entry points into the much larger and still unknown socialist world where Obama's career was nurtured. That is why the president has disguised and withheld the truth about these political partnerships.
'The time has come to lift the veil and reveal the untold story of America's Radical-in-Chief and his socialist political world.'
"The sooner, the better.
"The liberal media establishment has been determined to help Obama maintain his image, but facts are pesky things.
"After John Fund's Wall Street Journal op-ed titled 'Obama's Liberal Shock Troops' on July 12, 2008, Team Obama needed to distance their man from ACORN.
"Sanford A. Newman responded by writing a letter that was published in the Wall Street Journal on July 22, 2008.
"Newman wrote:
'John Fund's "Obama's Liberal Shock Troops" (op-ed, July 12) has some facts wrong. The historic nonpartisan drive to increase voter participation that Barack Obama led in 1992 wasn't for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, but for Project Vote — of which I was the national director in 1992.
'Instead of accepting far more prestigious and better paying offers, Mr. Obama accepted a grueling job with Project Vote for a meager salary. He believed so much in the democratic process that he even gave up the contract for publication of his book, not knowing whether he would ever find another publisher. He brought a broad spectrum of community organizations into that effort, conducting what remains the most successful nonpartisan voter drive in Illinois history.
'Project Vote remains a separate organization today. Indeed, it wasn't until after Mr. Obama's tenure had ended that it began to conduct projects more frequently with ACORN than with other community-based organizations.
'Both Project Vote and ACORN should be proud that their efforts have increased voting. Acorn should also be proud of its other work, including winning minimum-wage increases and helping lead the fight against predatory lending and unfair foreclosures.
'Mr. Obama's willingness to sacrifice because of his deep commitment to strengthening the democratic process is something that all Americans should applaud regardless of their party or politics.'
"Was Project Vote really nonpartisan?
"Of course not. Illinois Project Vote, which Newman chose Obama to head in 1992, registered people to vote later that year for Democrats (Bill Clinton for President, Carol Moseley Braun for United States Senator).
"WAS Project Vote separate from ACORN in 1992 or in 2008?
"As Clinton might say, it depends upon what separate means.
"Jon Bauman of Texas responded to Newman in a letter published in the Wall Street Journal on August 7, 2008.
"Bauman wrote:
'Regarding Sanford A. Newman's letter "ACORN Didn't Employ Obama in '92' "(July 22), I would like Mr. Newman to explain the following:
(1) The union and Clinton/Gore Campaign financial support to Project Vote in the context of Mr. Newman's claim that Mr. Obama led a "nonpartisan" voter drive in 1992.
(2) His semantic effort to separate the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (Acorn) from Project Vote when Mr. Obama's official Web site reports the following with respect to Acorn's endorsement of Mr. Obama's run for the presidency in 2007:
"When Obama met with Acorn leaders in November, he reminded them of his history with Acorn and his beginnings in Illinois as a Project Vote organizer, a nonprofit focused on voter rights and education. Senator Obama said, 'I come out of a grassroots organizing background. That's what I did for three and half years before I went to law school. That's the reason I moved to Chicago was to organize. So there is something that I know personally, the work you do, the importance of it. I've been fighting alongside Acorn on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, Acorn was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.'
'Although receiving federal funds and supposedly nonpartisan, there was nothing nonpartisan about Project Vote's '92 voter registration drive. In fact, some have attributed Mr. Obama's Project Vote work as key to getting Democrat Carol Moseley Braun elected senator. And while Acorn might not have signed his pay checks at Project Vote, Mr. Obama's own words prove that Project Vote and ACORN were hand and glove.'"
It is obvious that Hillary Clinton craves Catholic votes, but it would be foolish for Cardinal Dolan to disregard the evidence that Team Clinton not only does not respect the Catholic Church, but wants to undermine it. She and her cohorts want to "to undermine the authority of the Catholic bishops, and to separate the bishops from the people, as well as to secretly undermine Catholic teaching to make it more friendly to the Democratic Party’s agenda."

Michael J. Gaynor has been practicing law in New York since 1973. A former partner at Fulton, Duncombe & Rowe and Gaynor & Bass, he is a solo practitioner admitted to practice in New York state and federal courts and an Association of the Bar of the City of New York member.
Gaynor graduated magna cum laude, with Honors in Social Science, from Hofstra University's New College, and received his J.D. degree from St. John's Law School, where he won the American Jurisprudence Award in Evidence and served as an editor of the Law Review and the St. Thomas More Institute for Legal Research. He wrote on the Pentagon Papers case for the Review and obscenity law for The Catholic Lawyer and edited the Law Review's commentary on significant developments in New York law.
The day after graduating, Gaynor joined the Fulton firm, where he focused on litigation and corporate law. In 1997 Gaynor and Emily Bass formed Gaynor & Bass and then conducted a general legal practice, emphasizing litigation, and represented corporations, individuals and a New York City labor union. Notably, Gaynor & Bass prevailed in the Second Circuit in a seminal copyright infringement case, Tasini v. New York Times, against newspaper and magazine publishers and Lexis-Nexis. The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed, 7 to 2, holding that the copyrights of freelance writers had been infringed when their work was put online without permission or compensation.
Gaynor currently contributes regularly to www.MichNews.com, www.RenewAmerica.com, www.WebCommentary.com, www.PostChronicle.com and www.therealitycheck.org and has contributed to many other websites. He has written extensively on political and religious issues, notably the Terry Schiavo case, the Duke "no rape" case, ACORN and canon law, and appeared as a guest on television and radio. He was acknowledged in Until Proven Innocent, by Stuart Taylor and KC Johnson, and Culture of Corruption, by Michelle Malkin. He appeared on "Your World With Cavuto" to promote an eBay boycott that he initiated and "The World Over With Raymond Arroyo" (EWTN) to discuss the legal implications of the Schiavo case. On October 22, 2008, Gaynor was the first to report that The New York Times had killed an Obama/ACORN expose on which a Times reporter had been working with ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief.
